I look at security similar to the parable of the hungry bear. You don't have to be the fastest guy in the bunch, just faster than the slowest. If my rig is just a tad more secure than everyone elses... but not so much secure that it attracts unwanted interest, then the thieves will go for the easier targets. Especially if they are able to see inside, and there is nothing visible that is of any value.
However, if I were storing my rig closer to Austin, I'd leave it unlocked and toss in an old, but intact looking television in a storage compartment. That way, if the tweakers have their hands full with some goodie, they won't be ripping the wiring from the walls for copper. Same concept as mugging money.
