This whole mindset is confusing. I don't power off my entire home every time I run to the store and leave my house unattended. I don't unplug my TV or flip its breaker when I am not watching it at home. RV TVs have the same technology as home TVs, and are therefore just as likely to catch on fire.

That said... When we bought our camper used, there was an active recall on the touch panel of the microwave. They were known to turn on without permission. A technician was sent out for free to replace the panel, and until then I did unplug the microwave when not in use. However, it has been plugged in full time since.

The TV was a 4 year old Samsung. The insurance guy is coming tomorrow. Hope he is feeling generous!

When in storage the trailer is dead. Battery physically disconnected. Propane turned off. Even batterys removed from all devices. DEAD.

I had a similar event happen several years ago. The TV was in a open cabinet in the upper bedroom in a fifth wheel rv. I got up in the night to use the bathroom. Going back to bed I noticed the TV was beginning to smoke. Not seeing any flames, I grabbed the tv and pulled it out without taking any time to unhook the coax or power cord. The smoke alarm went off at this time. Thru it outside and watched it until the smoke dissipated. It did not catch fire.

The next morning I took it apart and found a capacitor that had melted. It was the old CRT type. Also heard that the campground had had some type of electrical problem that night as other rv's had some damage.

BIL has something similar happen while camping. Only instead of television it was the microwave. Woke about about 3:30 to the smoke alarm going off. The wicrowave was running and bread stored inside was starting to burn. Wife was at home since she had to work the next day, but his young daughters were with him.

Put the fire out, took the microwave out, and literally pitched it out the camper door.

Kids were asleep until the alarm went off, neither was tall enough at the time to reach the microwave, even if they had been awake.

I went through the camper wiring a few days after, found a low voltage problem, possibly caused by partially pinched insulation under the terminals of the breakers, couldn't find any other concerns. He had the camper for a year after with no other issues.

I like Samsung TVs.

Samsung does make TVs by the way.

Without beating dead horses......

It still would be interesting to know the brand of the TV.

Wonderful! Now we're going to have to install automatic fire-extinguisher systems for our televisions, we'll have to install a device in the power line to cut power if necessary, we'll rail against those dangerous appliances and we'll have to join a class action.

Not just an rv thing. It happens all the time in houses with everything from tv to coffee makers to microwaves.
