Fishing on the Road while staying in a RV (help)

I am an East Texas Bass Fisherman, looking to do some traveling with my new RV. But...since I won't have a boat with me, and don't plan on hiring a guide, I am somewhat limited as to where I can go.
How's is fishing on the coast, as far as wading, and also how about fishing off piers? I personally have never caught anything off a pier (and I have fished off piers several times)but would be interested in hearing your experiences.
As far as traveling outside of Texas, are there any recommendations (staying in the South)?
I am not a fly fisherman, but I may need to learn.
Also, does anyone know if there is anyone doing a RV blog that is into fishing?
I have been following the Wynns, and I know they have now bought a boat, but they are not exactly into fishing. (But I do enjoy their blog).
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks, Charles

  • Many places rent boats.
Most marina's around here have boats to rent. Many resorts also rent boats.
  • We take one of these along with us - a Portabote. It is a 12 foot folding rowboat. It mounts right to the side of the trailer and is only 4 inches wide when folded (and about 70 lbs). Seats, transom and motor go in the bed of the pickup tow vehicle. My wife and I love to fish, but we always had to fish from shore because we couldn't take along a boat. Portabote fixed that problem. It takes about 15 minutes to set up and get all the gear in the boat.

And unfolded and in the water:

Try kayak fishing. What a great adventure.

If visiting southern states, I would want to know EXACTLY how far north alligators roam before I paddled my kayak near the weeds along the shore of a lake at dusk. It might absolutely be an adventure.
  • I'm in the Hot Springs, Ark area right now. There are several big lakes around here and lots of fishing. Several state parks on the lakes with marinas and I think they rent boats too.

Heading up to Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals Lake area near Branson in a few days. Big, beautiful lakes. There's gotta be a couple fish in them.

A little further away, check out The Land Between the Lakes area in West Kentucky and Tennessee. Kentucky and Tennessee both have lots of big lakes.

You might look into the inflatable boats. May not take up as much room

I'm guessing the North Texas lakes are all filled up once again in the Wichita falls and Archer City areas...
