Actually the Manual Transmission 2 Wheel Drive Trackers Tow Fine! We towed Ours for Ten Years and well over 150,000 Kilometres in Neutral. Key to On to unlock the Steering!

No, a 1998 will not register miles.

I have a 98 Suzuki. Didn't know about leaving the key in off position and wheel would be free. Does it still register miles?

You may have been looking in the manual at roadside assistance towing of the car if it breaks down. Be sure you look in the manual for "Recreational Vehicle towing", i.e. towing it behind an RV.

I had a 1999 4WD Tracker with same experience and instructions as all the others.

Thanks to all who have replied with helpful comments. We feel a bit more comfortable about making our purchase of the 2000, Auto trans, Tracker.

I have a 2000 Tracker 4WD and it is towable 4down. I never stopped after 200 miles, I never drove any limited speed limit. I retired it but it still goes wherever. You have received the correct transfer case, steering lock, and transmission directions here.

2000 FMCA guide only lists 4WD. Plus 55 MPH and 200 mile limits.

Regardless your manual seems clear.

Is this a 4WD Tracker? I have had a 2000, a 2002 and now a 2004 Tracker, and have successfully towed all of them. So far a total of about 60,000 miles with no problems.

Just put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in park. Stop every 200 miles or so and start it up and put it in gear for a couple minutes to keep things lubricated. I typically do this when stopping for fuel or for a rest stop. I just do a walk-around the rig to check everything while it is running and get back on the road. Take no more than 5 minutes. I never make a special stop because 200 miles went by.

If you leave the key in the ignition after turning off the engine you can turn it to the lock position and the steering wheel will remain unlocked. The steering column does not lock until you actually remove the key. If you do it correctly you don't have to leave the ignition in accessory position.
