I went to "build and price" for 2017 Canyon, and it seems the opposite is true, in a convoluted way... The six-speed manual isn't available with 4WD so there's no way to get it into neutral with two-speed transfer case and all that to allow it to be towable.
To the OP, that page, gOOgle "2017 gmc canyon", offers "chat with specialist" and I'd guess s/he will confirm that GM doesn't want any Colorado/Canyon truck towed unless it has the Two Speed Transfer Case With Neutral, and those trucks are offered with only an Eight Speed Automatic Transmission. All ya gotta do is give GM about $8000 more...
