Flat towing

2012 4 wheel drive Colorado can be safely hooked up in three and one half minutes. Under pressure

I have disconnected and driven off in one minute fourth five seconds. Easy easy...

Please tell me, why would a wheel bearing on a dolly give anymore problem than the wheel bearing on the toad you are flat towing ??

Storing, is the only downside to a dolly. Other than that there ain't any,.......if you buy a decent dolly in the first place.

Dolly towing is one big PIA. Fine if you are only making a trip south for a season. Horrible if you are doing a lot of traveling. If a CG does not have a pull through you have to unload the toad and then find somewhere to store the dolly. In the morning you have to do tis in reverse. Over the years I cannot count the number of times I have seen a rig on the side of the road with the toad gone but the dolly jacked up and the hub and wheel missing. The owner has had bearing troubles and taken the assembly to a repair shop!

I don't know what people have against Dolly towing. I've done both, and given a choice, a no brainer. I went back to a 4x4, and so am forced to flat tow again.

The Colorado 4x4 is flat towable but GM has a bunch of hoops to jump through before you get going. If you go the toad section of IRV2 there is a long thread on this subject. Apparently some owners are having trouble when they reconnect the power after towing. The computer acts up and they cannot get the transfer case to work properly. Not everyone has this problem. I would not buy any GM truck for towing until they solve this problem. Can you imagine getting to the CG and you cannot use your toad???? Seems like every year there are fewer toad choices. The new transmissions ( Ford) and all the electronics are the problem.

All you have to do is look at the Owners Manual to get the correct answer!

Look under 'Recreational Towing' in the index.
It will tell you right there if it can be towed 4 down.

The owners manual most likely will not be in a new car on the lot.

MAKE the salesman go get it for you. AND do NOT ever listen to the salesman if it can be towed 4 down or not.
They DO NOT know.

The 4x4 is towable like the full size Chev trucks, but apparently Chev is now requiring the negative cable be removed. Many are adding a quick disconnect and wiring their brake systems with a negative cable to the battery.

Just bought the GMC Canyon version. 4X4 with auto transmission is ok to tow flat. Per the owners manual the negative battery terminal MUST be disconnected.

Purchase a 2012 Colorado 4x4. I find its the easiest toad to hook up and go. Neutral transfer case is easy. No need to unlock steering
