I am looking into leasing a 2013 Honda fit, can they be flat towed, Remco towing says you can flat tow the fit, but they also officially say from Remco and Honda that they cannot be, Which do you believe.

Look for a section in the Owners Manual titled "Recreational Towing".Everything you need to know should be in there, direct from Honda.If the book says "DON'T DO IT", and you do it anyway, and the transmission burns up, YOU get to fix it!Good luck.

The 2013 Honda Fit can be towed four down. There is a 65 MPH speed limitation and no distance limitation. No other restrictions for the manual transmission. On automatic transmission models, run engine at the beginning of each day, press brake pedal and move shifter through all positions, shift into DRIVE and hold for 5 seconds, then to NEUTRAL and let engine run for 3 minutes. Repeat at least every 8 hours thereafter. When towing for long periods, remove 30A radio fuse. Baseplates are made by several manufacturers.

I would not equip any car I lease to be flat towed. At the end of the lease, unless you buy the vehicle, you will be hit with astronomical costs for what they will term "abuse" and for repairs where the base plate was/is installed.

Physical practicalities aside:Since this is a leased vehicle, you probably need to check with the actual owner as to whether flat towing is something that's permitted under the terms of the lease.

I would have thought lease agreements would have a clause against "modifications" and installing a baseplate might be considered a modification. Also, when the lease is up, then what? I thought I remembered reading someplace that you couldn't even put a receiver on the back of a leased vehicle, unless it came with one. I guess that would constitute changing the vehicle too.

RESEARCH what cars can be towed 4-down. There are quite a few out there. Don't limit your RESEARCH to "new". Good used cars are out there that can be towed 4 down. So far,my first toad was a used '96 Ford Contour, 5 speed stick. Put that in neutral and go. My next toad was a new 2007 Chevy HHR automatic. Pull a fuse and off y'go. I also toad a (new) 2011 Ford Ranger 4WD automatic. A bit more $$ to set up for towing, but, for me, worth it.

As far as I know, a leased vehicle is limited to milage and woe be to you if you even change the radio! I strongly suggest you BUY. Then it's yours and no worries about "changing" anything.
