I've heard it, but I know that the screens will keep the bugs out, not sure about the other stuff. Better safe than sorry I figure.
I figure the screen isn't going to interfere with the air flow enough to bother. After all it's not like there's a big fan in there, it's just air flow from bottom to top by convection.
