Hard lesson learned but a good reason to leave the grey tank open. Hope the insurance company comes through for you. I know I would be sick if this happened.
I would not leave my gray tank open due to this mishap. Bad things can also happen by leaving the tanks exposed to the CG sewer.....
For example?
I'd love to hear at least one real reason.
Sewer Flies are one reason. They live in the can live sewer lines. If your tank valve is left open there is nothing to stop them from infesting Your RV. Google it if you like. It happens.
A 2nd more critical issue is if the CG sewer backs up. Raw sewage can back into your RV and overflow your gray tank creating an unimaginable nasty mess. Again this happens as well.
I agree both examples are rare. However they are legit possibilities that have happened before and will happen again.
Overflowing a sink/grey tank via a running faucet is also a rare occurrence that has happened before and will happen again.
I cannot control if a CG sewer has sewer flies or other insects in it, nor can I control if the CG sewer overflows.
But I can keep my valves shut to prevent any back flow issues. Hopefully I can discipline my kids to completely turn water off.
I prefer to take my chances with the kids and freshwater.
If you think flooding the RV with an inch of fresh water is bad. Consider flooding the RV with raw sewage:E
