Fly or Drive?: 2500 miles from NW to Carolina's in June

I am curious why anyone from out west would want to voluntarily relocate to the east/southeast? I've lived in a few different places (Texas, Mississippi, Idaho, Alaska, Minnesota, and Washington), and made my living traveling around the good old USA, and unless you are originally from that area, have children there, I don't understand the pull to relocate there.
