Fly or Drive?: 2500 miles from NW to Carolina's in June

I guess it depends on where "out west" is. I would avoid the CA and SW states myself. too rainy in other NW states. and I always liked the idea of retiring to Western NC. still have 4 seasons, not too bad in winter, summers OK at higher levels.
