"Mild" isn't the description I'd use for the South-east. We lived in Tidewater Virginia for three years and I was so glad to get back to Washington. My first day there in early June, going out to work at 07:15, it was foggy, 81 degrees and there was a thunderstorm going on.
It never got any more pleasant. Humidity was mainly in the 80% range or higher from late February to early November and there were heavy thunderstorms every afternoon. It wasn't unusual to get 2" of rain in 45 minutes.
Just before we moved back west, the afternoon storm, which usually lasted 30 to 45 minutes, stayed around overnight. We got about 12" of rain between 3:00 pm and 8:00 am the next day.
I'll take 75 F and 20% humidity over the East Coast summers any time!
