I use the Pilot/Flying J just outside Lansing Mi on my way back from the races at MIS. They've charged now for a few years.
I just signed up for their rewards card and I can dump for 2 bucks.
As usual we seem to have the wrong rewards card. I think we pay 5 bucks.
Flying J "dump" is a good name for this particular place. Last time we were there, 1 dump didn't work (no notice) and 2 of the 3 water spigots didn't work. Place is a dump.
Are you talking about the one at the 96-69 interchange? Last time I was there, everything was very clean it seemed everything was working. Thenn went in to the Denny's and had a great country fried steak breakfast.
I like it. Its about half way home for me from the track. Gives the black tank some good sloshing on the road before I dump it. hahaha
That's the one. The conditions I described were there about 2 months ago. Was your visit prior, or have they fixed it since?
Yes it was. Middle of August. returning home to the GR area from a NASCAR race @ MIS
Business are able to charge what they want as long as legal. Most aareas where there aare Flyin Js have municipal sewage hookups.
They pay fees of taxes for it just like all business, in most/many cases. Flying J did it because they appreciated RVer's business. We spent a lot of money on fuel and stuff in in the stores and and it's restaurants. The restaurants were very good at some locations and not so goodas late in some locations at the old Flyin Js. Pilot was interested in and pursued policies to acquire Flyin J a long time ago, now. Flyin J cut it's throat by gambling on price of fuel for future delivery. Pilot kinda frze out in house take overs and other competitors. Denny's; is terrible. No matter what we ordered, at the few stops, out west we got what they wanted us to have instead or whatever was lying around instead of our order. had to send back three times at one in New Mexico and it was terrible when we got it.
Pilot is not interested running restaurants nor particularily RVers. That is evident in the loops and obstacles we jump through to do business with them. In the past at Flyin J we fueled up with no muss no fuss and parked our rigss, if we wanted, went in bough some snacks and drinks for the road and had a sit down dinner, if the buffet looked good. Now, instead we spend that time fussing getting fuel and paying for it and leave no so happy, some times, and looking for an alternative. One instance in Ky involving Love's not Pilot they made it so inconvenient we left and went across the Interstate, fuel was 20 something cents cheaper. We pulled up, she saw us through the window and started the pumps. We were fueld in no time went in payed the same price card or cash and bought some drinks and snacks. We would have eaten if they had a good restaurant. This what we as Customers want. If Pilot, or Mr Haslam was an enthuastic RVer perhaps things would be different. The Germans backing the operation see the European predator model. Nothing is free and Customers can go fly a kite. There is a trucker or someone waiting. If they lose our business it is of no consequence. I understand the Owner of Good Sams has some small relationship with Haslam. Improving Customer relations and prices would greatly help Customer loyalty and long term satisfaction and profits. - DE88ROXExplorer

What rewards card is that? Are you sure it's not $2 off the $10 price to dump?
Pilot rewards card. just like all the others that you put on your key ring.
I gave her a 5 and she handed me back 3. Maybe she messed up. even at 5 its cheap.
I also have a Camping World 10 minutes from my house, as well as an RV dealer whose dump station is open to the public 24/7. I dont like to sit in lines and i figure the drive home will do the black tank some good and i can take my time to do a thorough job when i dump. - DE88ROXExplorer

But WHY should I expect a business to take my load of sewage for free? I have no problem with paying an appropriate fee, like $5 to use a dump station. Somebody built it and looks after it, and you guys all want to use it for free.
Can I come to your place and dump down your cleanout too? - BoskieExplorerOur local Flying J charges $5.00 but you need there card, they keep it well maintained..thank you!
- Kit_CarsonExplorerWe have a Love's Truck Stop about 35 miles east of us and a Flyin J/Pilot about 20 miles west of us. So, usually I go to either of them to dump for a fee. I think it is about $5.00.

Until people started pouring oil, paint thinner and other toxic stuff into them during the middle of the night. Result: No more dump stations unless paid for.
The tragedy of the commons never ceases. - PFJ_RV_PlusExplorerThank you for all of the comments on some of our locations. We do our best to make sure that everything is very clean and functioning properly but unfortunately, from time to time, we may have a store that falls below our high company standards.
So if you ever run into a problem at one of our locations, please call our customer service line at 877-866-7378 so that we can address the issue immediately!
Thank you for the feedback and keep it coming! - Star_GazerExplorerI don't have a problem paying a few bucks with my rewards card. Seems like the stations are cleaner now as a result of having to pay something too.
