I know eh? kind of like a question nobody asked. - atreisExplorerWhen I first saw these I had trouble seeing how they're better than high quality inflatables...
- Fish__n___GritsExplorerI like my Hobie Pro fish. Heavy, but incredibly stable.
- hone_eagleExplorerAdvanced elements and a folboat for us.
- OzInflatableKayExplorerMakes me so happy to hear people loving their inflatable kayaks! So many people on other forums are bagging them - they try one brand of dubious quality and claim that they are all bad!
- S-n-LExplorerIn the spring my wife and I will be heading out as full-timers with our Aire Super Lynx inflatable kayak. This is another line of compact boats to consider.
This is one awesome inflatable. The selling point for us was their 10 year unconditional warranty. If anything happens to this, regardless of reason, they will fix or replace it. Also, this boat is very rigid and feels like no other inflatable. These folks are the people who make the white water rafts that are used for running the rapids of the most aggressive rivers, and other high performance inflatable boats.
Our boat is a convertible two or one person boat. One of the best features is the removable skeg which allows straight line tracking. If you want more maneuverability, such as in waves, just take it off.
You can see them here: http://www.aire.com/aire/products/default.aspx?id=203

Kayaks
We have had one of these....five years, salt water, lakes, rivers...all good. Some dealers sell last year's model on Ebay for better prices. :) :)
Another AE owner here. We have the Advanced Frame Convertible with tandem deck and backbone. We've had it for two years now and are very happy.
On thing we bought for warm weather kayaking is inflatable PFDs. Much nicer that wearing a conventional PFD on a hot day. - notevenExplorer III
- atreisExplorerSeems problematic in rough water (nothing to make it strongly buoyant when swamped). Lots of (wet) storage space though, and it could be stiffer than an inflatable. The price is on par with a high quality inflatable. Overall though, I think I'll stick with my inflatables.
