Even if you are towing and must move over to the left into the fast lane, your speed is still not to exceed 55 MPH.
So what happens to all the traffic going at or above the posted limit of 65 or 70? If you move over you are supposed to travel at 10-15 mph or more slower than everyone else in that lane? Or what if you accelerate up an on-ramp to get into the rightmost lane and attempt to merge into the flow of traffic at 55?
If they want anyone towing, and esp. us with TTs and FWs, to travel at a speed substantially less than the speed of all the non-towing vehicles, that's just plain dangerous if you ask me. What is the rationale? Then when you head over to one of the neighboring states, they don't think those that are towing are dangerous.
Commercial truckers sure don't adhere to the 55 mph limit. I don't want a ticket when in Ca. but towing at 55 just doesn't make any sense. Maybe some of the lawmakers need to be handed the keys to a pickup and long TT or FW and see what it's really like on the roads.
