Hey, run100, I kinda know why you are generally healthy - bet you are blessed with good health but also take care of yourself.

BTW, don't give me shellfish unless you know a quick way to the E R! I found that out the hard way all of a sudden about 8 years ago; and never had a problem up til then. Now I am very careful what I eat at social gatherings of any kind - and I ask what is in things.

Phobias, potlucks and water hoses aside -
I am very seldom sick when compared to many friends, family and co-workers. Seems like someone always has some sort of ailment - cold, flu, digestive issue, etc. It could be I have a stronger immune system, or possibly better overall health (heck if I know), but I often wonder if it has to do with being a good hand washer and also watching where my food comes from. Probably difficult to nail down the exact reason. Then again, maybe I'll fall over dead tomorrow and everyone else will carry on for another 50-years.

When I was kid, I rode my bike without a helmet, drank water out of a garden hose and now I will eat at Pot Lucks! .... :B :B

So 48 million people a year is a very small potential ( one in 6 Americans )? I've had it from eating someone else's food and know many other people who have had it. So for you to say its a small kernel of truth or taking it to extreme levels is ridiculous. It's a "fact" there is a excellent chance it will happen from a pot luck ( one in 6 of you ). Maybe that's why it's called pot "luck" - hopefully you'll continue to have it.

So based on the definition of "phobia" you would be wrong, as the CDC states otherwise if you choose to read it, 48 million is a lot of people. You're twisting it around and putting up a straw men argument. Facts are facts.

On another note, I remember reading someone talking about a guy at the dump at a campground who was getting raw sewage on his bare hands and shoes while attempting the task. Then proceeded to eat a sandwich during the process. Maybe that guy brought the Swedish meatballs for the evening pot luck.

I had a trapper/hunter buddy that used to do potlucks.
They were great. Without him, I'd have never eaten moose, beaver, bear, squirrel or probably a bunch of other critters he fed me that I probably don't want to know about.

Getting food poisoning isn't a phobia. Allowing the very small potential of getting food poisoning to keep you from ever going to a potluck is a phobia.

Most phobias have a small kernal of truth but then get taken to extreme levels.
