My first job at 16 was as a dishwasher in a "Mom and Pop" Mexican Restaurant.. Helped keep my car on the road while in HS! :) That was actually a great place to work, but it was dirty as I had to clean it! (I had to get certified for a Food Handlers license, even washing dishes, way back then)
Then, I worked at a steak house restaurant chain that I'm sure everyone has heard of... (started with "Sizz") and moved up to cook when I started college (and was paying for college myself along with the car, but still living at home.. ;) )
In all that time, I know what goes on in the kitchens at restaurants, but I'll still go to them without fear of dying...
Potlucks.. Do them all the time at the office and even neighborhood/camping ones that I've attended..
No fear at all.. Smell and taste of the food is the first trigger.. Sure, there could still be little nasties in there, but you can die slipping on the shower too.. ;)
Merry Christmas!
