I agree with the idea that you bring a dish to share and then only eat from the dish you brought! That way you are actively participating in the group activity but dealing with your concerns about food prep etc. at the same time. Bringing a Tupperware container of your own meal could easily appear to many that you are making a negative statement towards the others in your group. We have a camping group and do a pot luck every time we get together. There are several with significant food allergies. They make enough of what they can eat to share with others and it is all understood. We also are aware of their allergies and try to avoid making something that could be harmful to them. We always write a note as to the ingredients used to make each dish - so there are no surprised for anyone!!
