I've never met anyone who didn't eat the food at potlucks, so this is news to me, but like others have said, if you want to go for the socializing and take your own food, do so. Nobody is going to care or even notice unless you announce it.
But it would be nice to take a small dish of something for the others..cookies or candy or something simple.
