For all you snowbirds down South from Indiana!
Do you realize that it was 36 years ago today that Indiana got hit with the Blizzard of '78 when we got 15 inches of snow and 10 foot drifts! I was 23 years old then, first "real" job after graduating college, first real rental house I lived in, and got totally snowed in. I lived alone, my car was completely buried under snow (especially thanks to the city for plowing it completely under), I had to use a teaspoon to dig my way out the front door because it was completely snow covered over from top to bottom. I lived in Frankfort, Indiana that year on Kelly Avenue. The Blizzard of '78 is still in the annals of history one of those land mark occasions which will probably be remembered forever!
Well, although we don't have 15 inches of snow today, as far as weather goes there's simply not much moving on the roads today. I don't live in Clinton County now, I live in Madison County, but my wife's parents live in Clinton County and they have called a 100% "stay off the road" order! Sounds like the roads are so drifted and the wind is blowing so much, the snow plows aren't even trying to do their job yet. I hate to say it, but where I'm living now, it's about the same.
Actually, today is an absolutely beautiful sunny day, and the temperatures have warmed up from below zero to about 25-30 above. But the wind is howling 25 mph according to my LaCross weather station, blowing all that snow we got last night causing his unending drifting.
So I attempted making a path to the fire wood to keep the fire place going in the house. I got 3 wheel barrels full of fire wood inside the house now, and the path I made is now blow over again. Well, just so all you snow birds from Indiana can appreciate what you're missing, here's what my fire pit looks like in the back yard. Somewhere under that drift is a fire pit. That stump is a tree we cut down this last summer: These photos were taken at 10:45 AM today:
Looking out my family room window (facing South) you can see the wind blowing the snow. This is not fog, it's snow being blown by the wind. You can see it blowing behind the camper too over the drive and in the distance, it looks like a fog.
Now for all you snowbirds from Indiana enjoying your warm climates, you are probably think right about now: "wine, wine, wine" ... a little snow and this guy "wines!"... well, you've got to consider, today is one of the first days we are actually above zero degrees. And we've had this snow for weeks now:
January 5... that's my little Dachshund looking for somewhere to "go"! Poor little "guy"... he's an original "low rider!"
