I alwso line, and understand, hardback and paperback books. That said, I very rarely buy or read them anymore. I find that the cheaper paper and printing being used in less expensive and paperback books has become much more difficult for me to read, and requires a much higher lighting level. Therefore, I have a NOOK HD (9 1/2" screen), a bit older but useful 8" Nook, my cell phone, and a library card. I get all the books I can read free, anywhere I have internet access. Usually load up several at a time, so if out of range, I still have boks to read. I can change the type size and color, and the brightness, an contrast for easy reading.
To answer the original question, public libraries usually have shelves of used books for sale, swap, or giveaway. Many campground maintain a lending library for campers to leave or swap books.
