I agree with the above. Since the Equal-i-zer bars are not tapered and are quite stiff, I would remove the WD bars out in the street before backing up. You could possibly cause damage to the trailer A frame if the angle is too steep. It will not hurt your truck to back up without the WD bars being hooked up.
If the angle is only a slight one then I would probably leave them connected because the normal driving and entering/leaving gas stations would probably put the same kind of stress on the A frame.
