I also saw that Lincoln has an MKZ hybrid which I assume is very similar since it is the same chassis.
Yes, as I recall, the MKZ is on same chassis IIRC, and is basically a 'blinged up' version of the Fusion.
My concern is I drive a lot of very mountainous terrain on a daily basis. I guess I will take one for a test drive.
Yes, test drive is a good idea.
I think you'll find the hybrid is like any other vehicle when it comes to mountainous roads. On a given trip, if you are going uphill more than downhill, mileage will suffer some. And, conversely, if you're going down more than up, mileage will be really good. Hybrids do have an advantage, though, in that they can get really, REALLY good mileage when going downhill more, because it can run in EV mode that much more, using zero fuel. A conventional vehicle would still be using some fuel when going downhill that you would not in a hybrid.
FYI, not sure if you heard from other sources, but Ford updated the programming on their hybrids a few months ago in a recall. Among other changes, the big change was that they made it so that it can run in EV mode up to 85 mph now. Previously, computer would force it into gas mode at anything over 62 mph. I've seen a good 2-3 mpg increase since we had that update done, because it allows me to run in EV mode a litte more on highways.
