- rockylarsonExplorerLetter Carrier or Mail Lady seem to be formal PC. However the person, male or female, that delivers our mail is the "mailman" in normal conversation.
- Opie431ExplorerWe rent a box for the winter and have mail forwarded to it. I leave a note in large print in the mail box that says return mail to Post Office to be forwarded. Last winter our village had subsitute mail men. Some mail was returned to the sender instead of being forwarded. They have been replaced by full time people so we hope we do not have that problem this year.
And does anyone know what you call a mail man if she is a woman?
We pay most bills on line. - charlysmom_dadExplorerThe first year we snowbirded, we used the free post office mail forwarding. Unfortunately, it does not forward everything. Magazines only got forwarded for 2 months, and letters with " do not forward" ( or words to that effect), do not get foewarded. We missed some medical letters. That time of year, we get medical insurance signup letters, and tax documents, so things did not go well.
The next year, we used the post office premium forwarding service. We still use it. They forward everything. But, as stated, it is pricey. We have it forwarded to a p.o. box , but we could also have it forwarded to the campground we stay at.
Our local post offices boxes all our mail, and ships it on Wednesday, we get it on Friday.
Christmas time, it might be delayed a few days, that is the usps hectic time.
We stay in one place, so this works for us. - wingsfan20ExplorerWe are lucky enough to have kids living near our S & B house. One of them checks the house and mail every day. Once a week we talk on phone and review what came. Any that needs to be sent is sent by priority mail and reaches us in two days. We do most of our payments on line, so much of the mail is miscellaneous or mot available online.
- rockylarsonExplorerThe PFS (premium forwarding service) from the USPS forwards all mail, even voting, jury, and junk. Doesn't matter how the sender labels it. It is pricey. Last I knew it was $15 to sign up and $15 per week. (now $17+) The on line sign up, while OK if you don't move around, is next to impossible to edit. Start and stop dates yes, forwarding addresses, no.
It works for us because our postmaster is really good and sees to the changes promptly. As often as 4 to 5 times in 9months. YMMV.
USPS PFS - DixiechickExplorerWe used the USPS when we wintered in Florida and had no problems.
- deereoneExplorerCheck with any place you get important mail from and make sure they do not have a "Do not Forward" policy. You won't get that mail, I found out the hard way.
- 2oldmanExplorer IIJust be careful with paper medical bills. There's some funny rules on those. And please don't count on timely paper bills from anyone.. either pay up front or do all you can online.
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIEasy....just check with your local PO and find out the requirements/limitations etc.
If you are planning on parking in one spot. - Dog_FolksExplorerWe have a mail service that lets you decide which company to use. We normally use Fed Ex. Forwarded our mail, conservatively at least 75 times, without a problem or issue.
Tried the USPS once to save money. Mail was lost. So that became three times actually, our first, our last, and our only.
I will pay extra, can track the delivery, and know it will arrive.
