Back in late May, after I moved my rig to store it until the weather gets cooler, I unwittingly found a definitely cure for a mice problem.Around Memorial Day, the Central Texas area not just had floods, but some twisters. One ripped through nearby, a few hundred feet from my rig, destroyed an entire section of chicken coops. Thankfully the birds were free-ranging, so none were killed.Well, they promptly found shelter underneath my travel trailer and its gravel pad... promptly turning it into a place for egg laying.Watching a hen pounce on a mouse also made me realize that the chickens are not as effective as cats... but they do get rid of critters.

Cool. My cat brings me offerings all the time. She earns her keep.

We have a couple of Bob Cats (this ones about 20" tall) they control the mice, rats, etc. We also have a Feral cat that works for a living.

Who would of thought of a chicken as being an effective mouse deterrent. Not surprising I guess as we all know mothers and how they will defend their own from whatever poses a threat.

I was staying late at a park in Michigan and one of my neighbors ask if I was having any problems with Mice.. I'm not, and neither are Amber and Alex.. In fact Amber and Alex would just love a few plump tasty mice. (yes, they are Cats)

Yep...haven't seen a mouse since we acquired a cat last year...

We had a feral cat that adopted us. Once she checked out our home, she decided to stay. She would bring us all kinds of gifts from her explorations. Some dead some alive and others between dead and alive.
In her later years, she became completely domesticated, wanting only
"store bought" food...Would not even look at some wild thing with an idea of killing it.
We had her for 15 plus years....We still miss her.

Ahh feral cats. Got to love em. They are definitely a one person pet. I've taken mine to the vet and she is fixed, which I do to all feral cats which seem to enjoy calling my home their home. Funny how they all leave after they are well from the surgery except the last one. Seems with mine that I'm the only one who can pick her up and hold her with no problem. She's a "cujo" and my watch cat but I have a lot less of those "walking salesmen door knockers"! But my veggies have never been so happy, especially my tomatoes, squash and cukes.

I loved the quality of my chicken eggs when they could wander the yard. Unfortunately, the new, free, dog I got hates chickens so I have to keep them penned up. I really need a Chicken Tractor that would allow me to move them around but, I'm too lazy to build one.

She had the best eggs you could possibly imagine! We fed her everything we ate, plus more. It is a fact, what the chicken eats will flavor the eggs. She lived just a few days shy of 5 years. She was also quite the bug catcher. We did take her camping with us too. Come to think of it, all the time we had her, we never had mice either! But also had dogs and cats and all kind of other critters too. (Those were the days!)

I don't think we're going to run out of songbirds anytime soon. I just wish our cat would kill pigeons. That's not a song, that's a pitiful wail.

Outdoor cats are also responsible for the deaths of many rodents that will destroy my house, vehicles, toys, RV etc.
My cat gets an unconditional pardon for killing birds and rabbits. Come to think about it, not much bird sh!t to wash off the truck either with the cat around.
He's been messing with a bear recently. Hope he's smarter than that sounds! Lol.

Btw birds can fly, cats only kill the dumb ones! It's like cleansing the gene pool. Maybe cats are also partly responsible for the strength of the species by keeping the weak ones from reproducing! Hahaha

EZ to prevent domestic animals from getting to mouse/rat bait!

Purchase the commercial style bait station.....or

make your own out of a 5 gal bucket with snap-on lid.

Cut 3" hole in side at ground level and use a short piece of 3" drain pipe for an entry tube.

Want it to "blend in" in your garden or shrubs - spray paint it green.

Talking about rat baits.... I had always used those store "green" rats baits in my garden until I found out me dog was swallowing it. That's when hydrogen peroxide comes into play. You can pour it down the animals mouth (Safe) and they will upchuck everything. Saved on my vet bill. Wished I could have chickens and their free range eggs.
