Mice ugghh

We are totally devastated with the havoc the mice did to our camper. We have never had issues until this year. The camper is parked at home, hooked up, and we frequently go in and out. The mice apparently partied hard in a few days time and there is not a place in the camper they didn't leave their signature.

We got everything out and threw away what needed to be thrown away. We are now working on removing any remaining mice and of course the smell and other issues. We apparently have a small mouse that seems to trip the trap but doesn't go near anything else that would help with his demise. We also plugged any holes we could find but we believe they are coming in with the electrical cord and have stuffed brillo pads in there for the time being.

Any hints on how to trap this remaining mouse? We have exhausted all help with that would be welcome. So far, our ideas other than poisoning him and taking a chance he dies in the camper.


We are thankful that no electrical damage was done but did I mention the smell??

I just am not sure I can get past the fact that mice had the run of our camper and I just don't know if I can sleep in there again. Please don't laugh...the struggle is real with this.

Thanks for allowing me to vent. Now maybe I can sleep even in my own bed without dreaming of mice. UUGGHHH

    I put snap traps, no bait, all over the camper.

    I also put glue traps in small brown paper lunch bags on the counters and floor. I have caught them this way in the past in a house...they will go in the bag.

    The glue mess and the mouse stays in the bag. Since it is already in the camper I would shove a peanut in the glue then top with a little peanut butter, they will smell it.

    So far, no mice this year. Thank goodness.

    We had a mouse in the garage, I had 20 snap traps and he bypassed all of them! he was running around. So I put the glue trap and got him in 15 minutes.

    PURE Peppermint oil works year after year for us as a deterrent. And the RV always smells good too.

    Thanks for that suggestion. We will probably try that since nothing else is working.

    That stinks!!! Good luck with the cleanup.

    I've had good luck with the wood spring traps with peanut butter. Just make sure they're set right and against the wall.

    PURE peppermint oil can usually be found at health food stores. Personally I use Fresh Cab rodent repellent as it's always worked for me. :)

    1 cat. 1 pan of cat litter. A bowl of water. Leave the cat in the camper 2 days. Mouse will be gone! Cat will not starve either in 2 days, but will have a delightful lunch though! Really... no joking, a cat will do it.

    Mice are territorial, so not likely to have more than 1 pair setup housekeeping in a camper. Gestation period is 19-21 days. That's when the trouble really starts.

    It's easy to loose track of time. But if you check a stored camper for odor once a week, you'll probably be able to nip the problem in the bud with traps or sticky pads.

    Never use poison unless you want to make your problem worse. Been there - done that.

    My slideout is the weak point in my camper. I bring it in within about 6" of being fully closed and then spray the rubber seals and gaps from underneath with peppermint oil. I don't think it's so much that the mice don't like odor of the mint oil as it masks food odors in the camper.
