Had a neighbor that had 4 guinea hens. They're ugly, extremely friendly, and free ranging although they return home to roost every nite. They make great watchdogs because they'll run up to anyone or anything moving making all kinds of racket, but the greatest thing about them is their love of bugs especially Fire Ants. In the Spring they'd roam pretty close to home, but as they eliminated all the bugs they'd start roaming further and further away during the day. By Fall in the afternoon you could hear them 4 blocks away. Loved not having to deal with Fire Ants and I sure miss those neighbors and their hens.
Of they'd lay eggs all around the neighborhood too then forget where they'd left 'em. The neighbor had her dogs trained to search for the eggs and every afternoon she'd take a walk with the dogs searching for eggs.
