Free Camping

Hello Campers,

My name is Brandon Smith with the Corps of Engineers and I got your info off of the FMCA website. We're on the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers in West Alabama and are looking for a few Park Host. The host would be required to spend 6-8 hours in the gatehouse greeting and checking campers in, cleaning the bathrooms once during their 3 day shift, then they would have 6 days off before returning for another 3 day shift. The position would include: free campsite with water, electric and sewer hookups, and free laundry. We'd love host that participate in Water Safety programs or Nature Walks with the Park Rangers involving school groups but this is not required. We would like to have at least a 3 month commitment but that is negotiable.

If your group is holding a rally or meeting close by we'd love to come meet you and give you more info in person if you'd have us.

Thanks for spreading the word and please let me know if anyone is interested or has questions. The parks are below in case people are not familiar with them.

In any case we'd love to host your group at our campgrounds and we could set up a lock and dam tour, history of our river, etc...

Thanks for your time and help making our parks a better place to camp,

  • Thanks for asking and checking back with me....

We have 4 Class A campgrounds (gatehouse, water, electric, impact sites, shower houses, etc...) and the biggest of those 4 only has 52 sites so we don't see a large amount of volume which equals cleaner bathrooms. But, we do ask that you spot clean on and off during all 3 days of your shift, ie-picking up paper, checking rolls of paper, wiping down sinks....but only 1 full blown cleaning per 3 day shift which includes mopping, disinfecting, etc...

We've always contracted this work out but we're learning as we go and I'm sure as we get busy this spring we'll have to make adjustments. But all our guest tell us that our facilities are top notch and spotless and we plan on continuing that trend.

I hope this answer any questions and please contact me should you need more info.

    Brandon

  • Sounds like a nice gig. But could I get you to explain a little more about cleaning the restrooms once during the 3 day shift? I'm used to cleaning restrooms 3 times a day. Maybe it's not a very busy park or you have another cleaning crew? Or you have extremely clean guests?
    thanks,
    jo
