I recommend the I-15, too. Both the 5 and the 405 are nightmares, and the Friday commute hours are basically bumper-to-bumper 5 MPH. You could use the I-215 from Temecula but that does add some extra time.
Once you get to the 210, turn west to Eagle Rock. You could use the 60 or the 10 but those will also be congested.
I've lived in the L.A. area since 1964 so I have the advantage of being able to get around without using any freeways if I have to.
