Front hitch for carrying generator

I am thinking of installing a front mount hitch on my 2013 GMC diesel truck to carry our 4000 watt generator. I wonder if it will cause too much air blockage in front of the radiator to cause over heating?
  • It has never been a problem for me.

  • Go to the curt web site, here is a box that says where to buy. It gives you an option to buy local. Only you know where your headed and how long at each place. Pick a spot that is a week or so away that your headed and put in that city or zip code. Call that dealer and see if they have one to fit your truck. If not maybe they can order for you and have it there waiting when you get there. They may also be able to install while you wait.

We have a 2012 GMC diesel and carry our bikes on a front hitch. I've seen truck campers carrying there generator on a front hitch. A front hitch will be below the bumper so things will be lower. We have a curt hitch, easy install bolts to the frame using existing holes. Go to curt hitch web site and fill out info for which of there hitches. Write down the model number and go to amazon and look up that model. It's cheaper through amazon. I don't think you will have a problem with air flow.

Right now we are on the road headed west so we have to find the hitch some place. I do not have and address or time to wait for a week for a shipment...

Great idea!......but you will need a long cord to reach it. Ours rides between the Transfer Flow tank and the hitch and it takes a 30 ft extension cord to reach it while we overnight at truck stops/walmarts.

Beings the bedroom is above the hitch arn't you concerned about exhaust fumes from it?

  • I doubt that it would cause a problem, but I have never done it because I know I would forget it's there and hit something with it. :B
