A long time friend of DW works at Costco. They have a very liberal return policy, maybe the easiest of them all to return things. There was one particular couple that would buy a bunch of camping stuff (tents, sleeping bags, etc.) and use it for the summer and then return all of it at the end of the season. This went on for 3 or 4 years. The manager eventually stepped in and said that's ridiculous and enough's enough and said no more.
You could try that with a generator. They might just take it back if it has gas in it... :)
