I enjoy planning a trip almost as much as the trip. When I first started RVing, I thought about trips that I enjoyed when I was a kid, traveling with my parents. So I googled "South Dakota Tourism". They have an excellent site. Over time, I built a favorites list with all the "(state name) tourism" sites in it. Some are better than others, but they're all pretty good. After all, they like our money, and would love for us to leave some behind.
When I take the actual trip, I stop at the first rest stop as I enter each state on my route. They usually have a wall of flyers for tourists, people behind the counter that may have their favorites, and know of any road construction on my planned route. They also have bathrooms that don't empty into my holding tank and give me the opportunity to stretch my legs.
BTW, they all have flyers for "Ripley's Believe It or Not". That old boy gets around.
