Would be interesting to hear why he thinks a 2012 or earlier runs out of payload so much quicker than a 2013 and up. (Yes I understand what changed between the 3rd Gen chassis and the 4th gen chassis in 2013/2014.)
It was my experience. I was truck shopping for a 2012 Ram. Side by side, a Crew Cab vs. a Mega Cab with everything else the same- the Mega Cab was a lot lower than the crew cab. I want to say it was in the order of 2,000 lbs, but that was a long time ago.
I then looked at the 2013 trucks when they came out and the Mega Cab had higher payload numbers. I know my buddy's 2014 Mega Cab SRW had the same payload capacity as my 2012 Crew Cab DRW.
I don't know what or why Chrysler changed the numbers starting in 2013, but my experience was that they did.
I want to say that I saw a 2012 Mega Cab dually with just barely more than 2,000 lbs. of cargo carrying capacity. Figure family of 6, travel comforters, **** in the truck bed, and all that jazz since they're fulltiming- yeah, you're going to exceed that.
And, I've put down my weight police card. I will mention it, but am not going to brow-beat it. As I said in my post, "if ratings matter to them...", I was just sharing information. I don't argue if you should/shouldn't go over; what ratings matter vs. not; nor where the ratings come from. I can't and won't answer any of that. It's not my thing (any more?).
