You're still getting a bargain in my book. Your paying $248 in tax a year. The average motorist is probably paying about $400.
illinois is also taxing EV owners $248 p/y per vehicle. at the new gas tax rate of $.38 p/g. that's the equivalent of ~652 gallons of gas per year.
I sit corrected. my gasser plates are going to $148 each this year and my MH is going to run ~$200. the EVs are going to $248 or roughly 263-gallons of gas.
in calendar 2018 I burned a combined total (two vehicles used exclusively in Illinois) of 112.5-gallons for an additional $22 in road tax. and my county levies an additional $0.04 p/g or an additional $4.50. including my plates that came to $245 in 2018. assuming roughly the same amount of gas burned I anticipate an increase of 40% to $346. and that's just for those two vehicles. and
our third vehicle is our toad and of course we pay a varied amount of gas tax in different states. in 2018 I burned 404-gallons in that vehicle and whopping 1152-gallons in the MH. no idea at all what our average state gas tax is for those vehicles.
not really complaining about the tax per se...it's my choice to burn gas. my complaint is centered on the corruption, deception and lies told by our ethically challenged governor and the legislature about how this revenue will be spent.
I had a whole 'nuther paragraph, a rant if you will, about Illinois, our gov and the legislature but I deleted it to avoid that tricky left turn into politics. happy to share my thoughts via private message should anyone give a hoot. :)
