So as a general response to this post, its worth stopping to take a deep breath and dig a little deeper (if you're interested). The OP is misleading by making it appear that GE is now Haier, when in fact, a portion of its company (the home appliance sector) was bought by Haier. Haier has about 1/10 of the worldwide market of appliance sales and GE had about 1/10 of the USA market for appliances. I'm not going to pontificate whether or not this is a good thing, but there are clearly a great number of other options if you don't want GE/Haier products. However, buyer beware that your other options are probably manufactured in the warehouse next door to Haier.
Moreover, its not really useful to rant on like this without doing the research. I frequently buy tools and sporting goods equipment where the name of the product means very little when compared the product line itself. For example, I recently bought a few WEN Drill Presses. I was going to buy a high-quality JET unit, but then I discovered that this particular product line was manufactured by WEN and had the JET name slapped on it. One particular fishing rod company I prefer to use sells a lower-end product line that's "Made in China" but if you pay a little more, you can buy there "Made in USA" model.
