I'll give you a data point: we dipped friend's Onan after he crossed the desert running two roof airs in 105 degree weather. Temp off the blacktop could have been higher. Oil temp was 235-240 degrees. Yes on the hot side but I didn't think dangerous considering the ambient temp and load. You'll see air cooled Harleys running quite a bit hotter than that occasionally. If I needed AC for comfort and the generator was running at 250 degrees oil temp, I'd go with comfort every time :) If you are seeing these very high temps use a stout oil of at least 40 weight top number.
