They do, Google genset noise reduction boxes in Japan and you'll find all sorts of effective solutions. Problem is, they're not inexpensive to build, far beyond what genset owners here in Canada & the US would be willing to pay. The solution is to build your own, just as I did - pics & videos start here. - jkwilsonExplorer III

The fact that they don’t is a testament to the fact that it isn’t easy or cheap to reduce the noise of an internal combustion engine. Most of what you can do needs to be incorporated into the design of the equipment from the beginning, and those things generally either kill performance or add a lot of weight. - LwiddisExplorer IIIf you don't need AC or microwave a solar system is a silent alternative.
- JaxDadExplorer IIIThere's lots of options that have been around for a long time.
The big problem however is that an air-cooled engine must by virtue of it's operation be open to the air, add to that the exhaust and that will inevitably result in noise.
In most cases though the soundproofing of the coach is enough to more than cover it up.
In my case(s) my C has a Onan 4KY which lives directly beneath the bed, yes its loud, but I never need it while I'm sleeping so I don't care. My A has an Onan 5500 which is so silent I need to stop and concentrate to tell if it's running daytime with the usual ambient noise and can easily sleep through if I need it running for the A/C or furnace.
