Generator Use

I know that this question has been asked in other forums. But, can't seem to find any answer. When you are staying overnight in one of the "free" places, like Walmart, Kmart, Cracker Barrel, and a few others, are you able to run your motor home generator? In some parts of the country, in the summer, it is just too hot without AC. Can't run the AC without the generator running. :@

Thanks

  • For us, if it is so hot that we need to run the generator all night, we just find a campground.
  • If you are going to potentially be running your generator in close quarters, look into getting a Genturi. It's an exhaust stack that gets the CO and exhaust fumes above the roof level of your MH. That way you won't be blowing your generator exhaust under your neighbor's camper.
  • There is a huge difference between commercial parking lots. Walmart's tend to be huge with room to be separated from other noise makers. Cracker Barrel's tend to be smaller and a generator parked six feet from someone's open window may not be appreciated. Truck stops are already noisy and people don't expect them to be quiet.

To answer your question, I know of no commercial parking lot that allows overnight parking but forbids generators. I am sure there are exceptions.
  • Running an engine in a parking lot is rarely a problem. As was suggested, it's nice to be considerate about it as much as possible. If it is hot weather and you have neighbors they will likely be runninf a generator and air conditioner also.
  • I run mine. Try to point exhaust out away from folks. I don't pull in with mine running and park next to someone already there. If they pull in later and don't like gen...they are free to move.

    Try to be considerate...always a good idea. :) :)
