The only reason to go to 50 amps is to run large draw appliances like an air conditioner and washer or dryer at the same time.
Your 30 amp service should be able to handle an air conditioner and most small appliances as you need them.
I use two Honda 2000i with a parallel kit (30 amps) when I need to use the air conditioner (15000 BTU). If no air conditioner is needed we can get by with just one of the Honda 2000i.
