Making our first trip towing a dolly with a 5 speed 4x4 Geo Tracker. Pulled boats around the world but never a dolly. ALL advice is appreciated. steering locked? Neutral?
x2 on the hubs. Manual vs automatic hubs come into play when towing a 4x4 Tracker four down.
What ever your manual says you need to have to tow with the dolly, if you have the wrong type it is 'real' easy to switch them out. So my RV dealership said when I dropped my Tracker off to get a base plate etc.
Turned out I had the manual hubs so I didn't have to switch them out.
I'd also make sure that it states in the manual that you can even tow it on a dolly before you do it. Many will show a picture of the car on a dolly with a big red line thru it!! :B
I can only give advice from the 1995 Manual for for my Geo Tracker 4x4. You have to have manual front hubs and then unlock them. Transfer case in neutral Transmission in Park or 2nd gear, if straight shift. Ignition key in ACC to unlock the steering wheel.
It also stated that if towed on a dolly, Rear wheels on the dolly. Unlock the front hubs. Clamp the steering wheel in the straight ahead position.
What year? Danger! Have you read the owner's manual? Do you have manual hubs? When towing four down, you are to put the transfer case in NEUTRAL, transmission in 2nd gear. '02 Suzuki manual, Big Brother to Tracker, says to tow with back wheels on dolly.
