A friend of ours had a severe infection after a total knee replacement and after fighting it for a few months the Dr finally removed the implant and put a straight rod in place of the knee and after treating the infection for several months finally removed the rod and put in a new knee replacement. After his experience and reading about yours I am glad my Dr. was so picky and refused to do my 2nd knee replacement because I had a scratch on that leg a few inches from where the incision would be, he postponed the surgery for a couple of weeks. At the time I was a little upset and thought he was being too picky. He told me his infection rate was extremely low and one of the best around because of little things like my scratch, he said a lot of other Drs. would have ignored the scratch and slight redness and proceeded with the surgery. I had even told him if I was not concerned he should not be either and he said if you get a infection you will be concerned. Thank god I has a Dr. so conscious about infections. :) I now have 2 good replacement knees. :)
