I'm 43 and hope to have a full life ahead of me. No health issues for my wife and I, yet. We've got two young boys and enjoying the heck out of every weekend trip we can get our hands on.
I watched both sets of grandparents and now my own parents become paralized by doctor visits that changed their plans for retirement. I've long wrestled with the balance between living life and being responsible for our future (as we all do). It's not easy.
In the end, I realize this. There are windows that life presents us with that will not come back again. For instance, as our boys (now 8) go from now until they move out, we're going to have a precious few years to go on the big "family" trips that we all dream of. We're going to take those opportunities whether or not it's the wisest financial decision or fits nicely between their sports seasons, etc. We're going on those trips...PERIOD. I'll deal with any consequences afterwards. :)
I sure as hell will approach our first few years of retirement that way too!
