OP here: Yesterday I got the green light from my surgeon to take off on our trip. He pointed out that after what "we" (you don't go though a nightmare like this alone, ask my bride), had been through that we should definitely go. My new (the second new), knee is healing albeit slowly and I will need to continue the rehab process for quite a while. We will be leaving Tucson on August first. We lost May, June and July but are delighted to be able to salvage the second half. Weather permitting, and if we get out of the high country we may be able to stay out until mid to late October.
Initially we will be heading to the gold country of northern California to visit friends by way of Flagstaff, on to Utah and across the Nevada's Great Basin on highway 50 (the loneliest road in America???), to Carson City. From there up and around lake Tahoe and on to Nevada City. My buddy has several acres on a running stream and tells me there's gold in them thar hills. We look forward to trying our hands at panning.
The northern California and southern oregon coast will be next as we work our way up into Idaho and push east to Montana. Might even make it up to Glacier NP before starting back south through Yellowstone and ultimately Colorado, New Mexico and home. Lots of mountains on this path but our 5.4L F-150 should be up to the task as the 22' TT comes in at or just under 5K#. We've seen just about all of the mountains that Arizona, New Mexico and Utah have to offer so it should be a great trip full of wonderful new adventures. If anyone has suggestions, must see's etc. for this route lets hear them as it will be new territory to us. I have just a few minor maintenance items to attend to on the TV and TT and the next 3 weeks will fly by.
We are so fortunate to be able to go... and we are gonna! :B We're already thinking about a cross country run next spring and early summer. Like I said in the first post get out and go folks, you just never know what is coming at you around the next curve. :C
