It works great for the wife and I. We are in the process of refurbishing it inside and out. We also have a 1988 Bigfoot 11.5 ft Truck camper (4000 lbs).
Better call out the weight police to make sure your not over weight since adding all that extra steel!! Lol!
I do suggest to the OP to do the subframe. I really see no other way to get the trailer level with the truck, other than going with a flatbed. I only checked the cost at one place for mine, and got a quote between $2000 and $3000 as I recall. A friend and I did mine, he was 60 and I was 72 years of age. In my younger years, I could have cut the time in half. He had never been exposed to this type of work. It took us about 24 hours. We replaced the spring bushings and repacked the wheel bearings, which was not included in the quote. It was more time consuming than it was difficult.

I know I've heard many times from posters that trailer people don't recommend using them but I've run 2" spacer blocks in both my toy haulers with no issues what so ever. A person does need to use new and heavier duty u-bolts when doing it and not go over 2" on the block height. When I get my new hauler if its too low will do the same thing again. I didn't have anyplace to work on mine for the extended time required to cut the axles out, build a subframe and rehang the axles...probably wouldn't have done it that way anyway. Plus, someone doing a subframe themselves better know what they are doing or it could be way more dangerous than ever installing spacer blocks. Just my opinion.
