When getting a vehicle serviced at an unfamiliar shop always ask 2 questions about the labor rate, even if it is posted:
1) What is the labor rate? - or - Is that (pointing to the sign) labor rate correct?
2) Do you bill the labor rate in 15/30 minute increments? If they do, they'll usually qualify it by saying "only after the 1st hour".
Most shops will bill a whole hour, even for a 5 minute repair. On the rare simple repair like screwing on a new AM/FM aerial or snapping on a new cap on a waste vent, they might charge a half hour for labor - if they're feeling generous and the moon and stars are in alignment.
