Having had a TT, and towing it with and without a WD hitch, and having lived full time in a fifth wheel, there is no way I would ever have another TT or WD hitch! IMO, the fifth wheel is SO much nicer!
I know that is no help with your problem and decision making, but that is my opinion. Life is filled with hassles, and it would be SO easy to eliminate THAT one!
I agree 100%, but the OP is towing with a 150 short box. He will need the belt and suspenders.
I pull naked ( no bars, anti-sway )a 27.9" TT with no problems. My truck is a 2012 CTD 2500 with rear Timbrens. This is a very simple setup that rivals the best.
