I have the Equalizer and find it very easy to hook up, since there are no chains or snap up brackets. I've had it since 2007 and towed about 10,000 miles and I've never had a bracket move, nor have I even retorqued any of the bolts.
I always move my trailer around the property without my bars on, my hitch is rated for 500 without them, and my tongue weight is ~600 unloaded. I don't have a overly robust tow vehicle and it hasn't suffered any ill effects by moving the trailer around without the WD bars.
