Found out some information on the NEW Blue Ox Sway Pro. I've been talking to their Engineer and Vice President and it may not be as bad as everyone is thinking. I may get this system
The rotating latches help with sway but are not the priority sway control in the hitch, the head is.
The head adjustment was taken out, and predetermined angle was built in because they feel that this is a must for good sway control and some installs weren't tilting the head enough. The head tilting is a must to 'bow' their bars so that propper tension is on them, since they control the majority of sway.
The friction adjustment in the bar lobes or ends was taken out because of dog tracking and noise. I know some complained about dog tracking in the Equal-i-zer brand hitch. That's where under slick conditions the friction of the head will hold the bars at angle and not allow them to come back in line or straight. Usually only under really slick conditions though with a maximum adjustment on the amount of friction.
They have now angled the pin, that holds the lobes or bar ends in, so that when the bars are forced out of being straight, the angles load up the bar with tension and force themselves to come back in line or straight.
They have said this new angled pin design is more effective at controlling sway than the friction method was, plus has no dog tracking or noise and pops associated with it.
The main reason for the redesign was that installers were incorrectly installing the hitch system, JUST AS MY REESE SYSTEM! So they made it fool proof while supposedly improving the sway control behavior of the system.
I pointed out that without an adjustable tilt in the head, it would be hard to really dial in the perfect weight distribution but they assured me that system really only needs to be adjusted with the chain links for the weight distribution.
I'll make my decision on going with this system after talking to the dealer and finding out what they are willing to do to make right, the broken head from their improper installation.
The Blue Ox doesn't sound so bad now and they said their experience with the new system has shown better sway control but I guess the proof will be with users towing with this new Sway Pro system. BTW, all parts are backward compatible, except for the head obviously.
