X2 and then some.
Common sense told me to leave the Ft Myers/Punta Gorda area, on Wednesday. I-75 was close to being a parking lot. Took eight hours to go 180 miles (22.5 mph). Thursday, moved farther west, to Appalachicola. Storm track shifts, again. Friday, now even farther west, in Alabama. May have to move again, as I prefer to stay far ahead of it.
These things are a real PITA. Torrential rain, flooding, storm surge, and, tornadoes (note the plural).
Sure, plenty of warning is nice but not everyone has the means to evacuate 4-5 days out. I consider myself very fortunate to have my home on wheels.
If you aren't able to evacuate in a timely manner, if at all, you wait and wait and wait to find out where it's going, then it might be too late. Or it changes direction. (Think Charley-dead set to hit Tampa Bay but sharp right turn literally at the last moment into Punta Gorda).
I would rather take my chances any day with one focused tornado, that only affects me if I happen to be in that little focused area, than a 200 mile wide demon that chases me across the country.
