Good light mattress?

We use a sleep number mattress (select comfort). Wife is very pleased. Have used it for a number of years and allows for easy access to under bed storage. Upgraded to wireless control - much easier to manage individual firmness.

When we purchased our RV (used), the first thing out the door was the mattress. We got an air mattress, but that didn't last very long. Developed a slow leak over night, so we'd wake up on the board. Was not used more than a few times, but over a year, so warranty was expired. DH then got a sleep number, because I have serious back problems. The first few times I slept on it, I hated it. I didn't have the heart to say a word, because of what the thing cost. But... after I slept on it a few times, it's now GREAT.

With you being on a trip, perhaps a good memory foam topper would get you through until you get home and can decide what you want to do.

We bought a memory foam topper 3" thick, helped with the sheets fitting better also. The RV mattress was like sleeping on a board..I like a firm mattress but that was HARD.

We bought a Bed in a Box from www.bedinabox.com at the recommendation of folks on this forum. PacBed Original. They make a 9" but we added extra 2" for more firmness and added the gel for coolness. It is still heavy.
We are going to add struts under the bed frame to help lift it. Many RV's come with these lifts installed. Ours didn't.

Our previous 2 trailers we replaced them with Serta's, just like the one on our bed in the house. We never had any problems lifting it. Yea, it's a little heavy, but not so heavy that it can't be lifted by one person. I use a stick to help support it up. I put a little block on the bottom of the bed to catch the stick so we can dig around without it falling.

Our new Outback actually came with a good mattress. Didn't have to change it. But it feels heavier than our Serta's. But it IS comfortable! The bed still does not stay up by itself though.

Get a normal mattress, match the one in your house and sleep well. The problem we had (in the past) with memory foam toppers, is they move around too much, and actually are a PITA. At least the one we had was. We ended up removing it and just got a normal household Serta mattress. Life was much nicer than!

I agree, ANY cheap mattress w/ 4"foam on top and you'll sleep like a champ!
